Adventures in the City is a summer program organized and sponsored by the CAC that brings academic and enrichment opportunities to disadvantaged children in Hartford’s inner city. Now in its 28th year, the program is offered over a five-week period every summer to kids in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. 300–500 students attend each year depending on the level of funding we receive.

Academics
Morning sessions are dedicated to academic instruction in reading and math with the goal of raising the students’ tested scores in both areas. During last summer’s program, students’ reading ability improved by an average of one year. Math improved by an average of seven months.

Enrichment
Afternoon enrichment includes drama, poetry, music, art, games, visits to the library and time logged in at the computer lab. Each week concludes with a field trip to an exciting location such as the Bushnell Park Carousel, Hartford Children's Museum, the Artists Collective or Quassy Amusement Park.

Our Summer 2010 Program
The theme for our summer 2010 program is “Go Green: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle.” If you're interested in enrolling your child in the program, please come back soon for details and registration information, or contact one of our program administrators (at right).

You can make a difference in a child's life
We count on the generous support of our friends and partners to offer this program to as many children as possible each summer. Your donation of time, talent or much-needed funds can help make a difference in the life of a child. Click here to learn more or contact Rev. Edwin Ayala.
