The CAC carries out its mission in innovative, collaborative and comprehensive fashion. Specifically, we:

  • Provide almost 1000 impoverished children a summer program, Adventures in the City, emphasizing academic improvement and enrichment opportunities;

  • Offer housing counseling to over 200 lower income families each year;

  • Organize families through our Comprehensive Community Development work with adjacent neighborhoods: Upper Albany, Asylum Hill, Blue Hills and Clay Arsenal;

  • Monitor, assist and support over 250 lower income homeowners throughout the region in our scattered site downpayment assistance program;

  • Educate and mobilize people throughout the state of Connecticut on issues around universal health care;

  • Provide safe, affordable rental housing and supportive services for 18 HIV/AIDS families (Zezzo House) and 60 frail elderly residents (Horace Bushnell Congregate Homes);

  • Distribute Christmas gifts to over 100 families for their children through the "Toys for Tots" program each year;

  • Develop affordably priced homes for lower income working families in our target neighborhood (to date 16 two family homes with 6 condo units on the way);

  • Offer immersion trips to persons throughout the region in order to educate and motivate people for urban mission initiatives.
